I am an independent voter. I vote for the man, not for the party. I am also a veteran.
Several years ago when the state veterans cemetery was in doubt, due to a powerful politician wanting it in his district, 38 of us from the Greater Ozarks Veterans Organization charted a bus and went to Jefferson City to lobby the governor to bring the cemetery to Springfield, where the greatest number of veterans outside of Kansas City and St Louis are congregated.
We were welcomed and taken in hand by Jim Kreider and Chuck Wooten. Kreider was Speaker Pro Tem and had arranged a meeting with Gov. Carnahan. Kreider spoke for us and pointed out this area would serve the most veterans and provide a replacement for the National Cemetery. He was representing all of the people and especially the veterans in his 142nd District. He continued to work for passage and funding of the states share of monies. Today work has begun on its construction.
I`m sure all the candidates for his office are capable, honest and deserving. But Kreider was there when we needed him the most, and now he needs us. Therefore, it behooves all veterans in the 142nd District to support Kreider, if for no other reason than to repay a debt.
